Bristol´s property fraternity packed out the Wessex Suite at the city´s Thistle Hotel for their annual Bristol Property Agents Association dinner.
I am pleased to report that the Association has had a very active and busy year.
This brief report summarises the BPAA ‘Events’ which have taken place, together with the principle ‘business’ issues with which the association has been engaged.
“A more enlightened attitude towards development from the city´s planners will be needed if Bristol is avoid stagnation in the decades to come.” That´s the view of Chris Haworth,the outgoing President of the Bristol Property Agents Association, delivered as he hands over the chains of office to his successor, Andrew Batchelor.
'The inaugural BPAA Quiz Night took place at The Mud Dock Cafe on 11th November 2009, where twenty teams battled it out for the title of Most Intelligent Property Professionals in the South West. A closely fought contest saw Bevan Britten in first place, Williams Gunter Hardwick in second, and Ashfield Land in third.
The Annual BPAA Golf Tournament took place at Mendip Spring Golf Club, on 24th September. The day was played in glorious late summer sunshine, brilliantly arranged by the Tournament organiser, Jason Herbert, who is to be complimented on the whole days outcome. 48 players entered which, given the current property climate, was a particularly fine effort.
Nine firms from across Bristol attended the Bristol Property Agents Association’s (BPAA’s) tennis tournament on the 10 September at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex in Bristol, on what transpired to be a ‘perfect’ afternoon; clear blue skies, a light breeze, fierce competition combined with fine sportsmanship and camaraderie between the competitors.
The Bristol Property Agents’ Association (BPAA) held their Annual Boules Competition last week at the Orangery, Goldney Hall, Clifton and raised £485 for Macmillan Cancer Support and NSPCC Childline (for Bristol) charities.
The BPAA Dinner raised £3,852 for Shelter.
This year the President has designated Macmillan Cancer Support and Childline as this years BPAA charities.

Chris Haworth is head of the development department at property consultancy Alder King. He has worked in the property market for more than 29 years and has extensive experience in all areas of commercial and residential development property.
As increasing numbers of developments fall victim to the recession, council planners have agreed to reconsider historic planning consents and, in the light of the downturn, to discuss the possibility of granting new, amended consents.
One of the points discussed was that of the difficulty in the current market of implementing planning consents granted at a time when the economy was growing and property values increasing.
